Projects with protected prices in Estepona

Estepona has taken a number of urgent measures in order to meet the demand for affordable housing, especially for those who are vulnerable. The council will be approving these measures at its plenary meeting this month.
Backed by a new Junta de Andalucía law aimed at speeding up the process across the region, the council will repurpose public land, excluding areas zoned for health or education, into sites for rental social housing.
The plan identifies suitable plots to support VPO rentals and temporary housing for those in need of housing. VPOs, or viviendas de protección oficial’, are social housing that are protected from property speculators in order to keep prices down.
The proposal includes an increase of up to 20% in the density of selected residential sites and up 10% on plots owned by councils. This will maximize the number affordable homes available for rapid development.
This is part of Estepona’s housing commitment, following the delivery of 100 VPO units in Juan Benítez and ongoing projects in Camino de Cortes, Arroyo Vaquero, and Guadalobón. ‘We’re acting quickly to meet our citizens’ needs,’ a council spokesperson said. The council has been awaiting approval since 2011 for this type of housing to be redeveloped.
This week, the plenary will approve technical studies that will expedite construction and ensure compliance with regional law. Estepona wants to take these steps to alleviate the housing crisis and support its most vulnerable citizens.
