Estepona will be hosting its first marathon in history on October 11, 2026. The event, which will be of international standing, is expected to attract runners all over Spain.
Presented by the mayor, José María García Urbano, alongside members of the Estepona Athletics Club, the marathon will highlight some of the town’s most attractive spots. The planned route will pass through key areas such as the coastal path, the historic old town, Avenida España, and the surroundings of the Botanical Garden and Orchidarium. By 2026, all 23 kilometres along Estepona’s coast will be linked, giving runners the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking sea views while running.
Estepona’s mayor stated that the town is more than prepared to meet this challenge due to the growing interest of locals in running, and new facilities, such as an athletics stadium. The town has already completed four successful half-marathons and has a long tradition of running.
Miguel de los Santos (President of Estepona’s Athletics Club), who represented Spain in Atlanta at the 1996 Olympics, described the project as “a dream coming true” for local runners. The club president and members of the club say that this event will encourage youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle and promote sport.
During the build-up, the club will provide participants with training sessions and advice. On the same date as the October race, the club will be offering training sessions and advice to help participants prepare.
