Estepona has paid all of its debts. The team of Mayor José María García Urbano has remarkably got the town’s accounts into positive figures after inheriting huge debt from the previous administration. Now, they plan to put the money back where it belongs – into residents’ pockets.
The mayor announced a tax reduction plan that includes a cut to the IBI for 2025. The measure will save approximately 38,000 households a collective €6.1 million.
IBI will reduce household bills by an average of 20 percent, depending on circumstances. The council’s data shows that 37,988 tax receipts are expected to benefit directly from this subsidy.
Estepona’s IBI has been reduced by 50% since 2011, making it one of the province’s lowest taxed municipalities.
Residents who dispose of household items such as appliances, furniture or oil in the “Punto Limpio”, a municipal dump, will also receive a 3 percent reduction on their waste collection fees. Residents who wish to qualify must submit an application with the Provincial Revenue Agency during the first quarter of the year 2026.
The council also plans to continue offering tax reliefs for groups at risk, such as the elderly, long-term unemployed and those facing social exclusion.
