Estepona’s second paella competition will take place on Sunday, May 31. The park El Calvario will be transformed into a vibrant cooking and tasting hub. Estepona Townhall, via the municipal Culture Department organized the event following the success last year of its debut.
Registration closes after 20 spots are filled
The town hall has confirmed that the 20 places available were all filled during the application period, which lasted from April 22 through May 18. The amateur chefs can enter individually or as a team. They must bring their own equipment including gas burners, paella pans and other utensils. Participants are required to supply all ingredients except for 1 litre oil and vegetables. These will be provided by Frutas y Verduras Acosta, and the Andalusian Cooperative Society Aceites de Sierra de Yeguas.
Public tasting starts at 2.30pm
Spoons and forks at the ready as visitors will be able to enjoy freshly prepared paella from 2pm, with each portion priced at €5. The teams are required to prepare a minimum 50 portions. This ensures that there will be plenty of food for the public to try throughout the day. Bar service is provided by the Royal and Old Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Veracruz.
The event schedule and the jury of culinary experts
Arrive at 12pm for your assigned number, and receive the cooking space that is allocated according to registration order. A jury made up of renowned professionals from the restaurant sector will evaluate the dishes before awarding the generous prizes, €1,000 for first place, €500 for second, €250 for third, and 17 gifts of €100.
