Estepona has been recognised in the prestigious ‘Andalucía en Flor’ competition celebrating the exceptional quality, care and beauty of the town’s parks and green spaces. The Andalusian Multi Sectoral Gardening Association, or AMJA, organizes the awards to highlight municipalities who are committed towards sustainable urban landscaping, environmentally responsible practices, and the promotion green public spaces.

Celebrating green excellence

The panel of judges commended Estepona’s meticulous maintenance of its green spaces, from the pedestrian streets in the centre of the town that are decorated with planters to newly-created public areas and well-established parks. This town was recognized for its blend of tradition, innovative thinking, and respect of the natural environment.

Blas Ruzafa (Deputy Mayor for External Control) said the accolade was the result of many years of planning and technical expertise. This recognition is the culmination of a rigorous, sustained approach to providing green spaces which are not only visually attractive but also functional, sustainable and in line with Estepona’s identity, he explained.

Sustainability efforts should be recognized

This award also recognized the efforts of municipal gardeners, technicians and landscapers who work together across departments in order to implement environmentally-friendly practices without compromising aesthetics or landscape values.

Estepona’s use of reclaimed irrigation water and the integration of well-designed, efficient green areas into new urban developments demonstrate its commitment to sustainability.

A “Gran Tour de Andalucia en Flor” highlight

In addition to this accolade, Estepona has been selected as a highlight of the “Gran Tour de Andalucía en Flor” 2025, a new initiative showcasing the most remarkable green spaces across Andalusia. Estepona is a historic town with many squares and streets to explore. The town’s narrow streets and charming plazas blend traditional architecture, thoughtfully maintained landscaping and a unique immersive experience.

Green future for the future

This award reinforces Estepona’s reputation as an Andalusia benchmark in urban gardening, landscape and sustainable tourism. This award is also a testimony to the town’s commitment to improving public spaces by combining beauty, community pride, and environmental responsibility.
