Estepona sharing cultures of 135 countries

Estepona, a cultural melting pot of 135 nations

Estepona’s local government is launching new initiatives in order to bring together the Spanish and foreign residents of the town, who come from 135 countries and represent 32 percent of its registered population.

The town, which has been a symbol of social and cultural harmony for decades, hopes to continue this trend with these new strategies. Jose Maria Garcia Urbano stresses that residents of Estepona, whether they are long-term residents or new arrivals, all share a love for the town, which has welcomed them warmly as they have built families and businesses.

The Town Hall is increasing its cooperation with foreign communities in order to organize events, encourage dialog, and meet their needs. The town hall has set up new channels for residents to exchange feedback and proposals, including dedicated emails. It also praised their altruism and their contribution to local charities during times of crisis such as the COVID-19 Pandemic or the DANA Floods in Valencia.

One of the main focuses is the expansion and promotion of the “Sharing Culturalities” programme. It celebrates the gastronomy of Estepona’s diverse communities, their crafts, and their traditions. The town will be hosting Nordic and Ukrainian Days along the promenade on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, 28. Nordic Day on Saturday will include Scandinavian food and crafts as well as family-friendly entertainment. Artists like Glenn Wish, Helene Wish Persson and a children’s chorus, among others, will perform. On Sunday, Ukrainian Day features an artisan’s market, a family workshop, a culinary event, as well as a concert featuring Ukrainian singers and dancing.

Residents are encouraged join in to celebrate the rich multi-cultural tapestry.
