Mazon stated that the fire services of the entire region were involved on Monday in over 500 rescues involving people trapped in elevators.

He added that constant help was provided to citizens, ‘especially people with reduced mobility’.

The president said that he expected ‘explanations and guarantees’ from the government ‘as soon as possible’ and assurances ‘there is no risk of a similar event happening again’.

He added: “This is an urgent debate in Spain that is needed, especially in light of the situation we’re also facing here, in relation to the nuclear energy in Valencian Community.”

“And sooner or later, we’ll have to deal with a problem that some of us warned about for years.”

Mazon said he was ‘waiting’ for the Spanish government to report on ‘what happened and why’.
