Drought warning in Spain: Third town on the Costa Blanca is told it faces water cuts if residents fail to cut back on usage

A THIRD Costa Blanca municipality faces cuts to domestic water supplies if residents don’t take ‘extreme measures’ to economise during the ongoing drought.

The stark warning has been issued by the mayor of Callosa d’En Sarria, Andres Molina.

Teulada and Benitatxell are supplying bottled water and tankers as tap water has been deemed undrinkable due to high salt levels caused by the drought.

Mayor Molina has warned Callosa residents that if the drought continues or worsens, restrictions will be introduced.

“Unfortunately, we cannot rule out restrictions in the near future, so we ask for the active collaboration of all citizens,” he stated.

The lack of any significant rainfall this year has led to a ‘critical situation’ according to the mayor.

“It is common knowledge that we are going through a complicated year and it is essential that we all make an effort to save water,” Molina added,

The appeal seeks to raise awareness about the need to adopt responsible water usage to mitigate the effects of the drought.

Another municipality that may also restrict supplies is Parcent, with residents already warned about the strong possibility of that happening.
