Manchester City has reportedly reached an agreement with Gianluigi Donnarumma on a huge salary package.

The 26 year old goalkeeper is ready to join the Etihad soon. He didn’t play in PSG’s recent European Super Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur, which PSG won (4-3 on penalty kicks).

Gianluigi Donnarumma, set for City: €12 million yearly wage

According to the La Stampa outlet, the Italian goalkeeper is set to pocket over €12 million net per year. It’s a little more than he made at Paris Saint-Germain due to incentives and bonuses.

Pep Guardiola has made it clear that Ederson is no longer his undisputed number one. Donnarumma will be able to compete for the first-team spot immediately after this move, as his Paris chapter is left behind. A chapter that saw him edged out after PSG brought in a new goalkeeper: Lucas Chevalier, from Lille, who was transferred for €40 million.

Donnarumma’s transfer has not been finalized. Manchester City and PSG are still negotiating the transfer fee, with the French side reportedly holding out for around €50 million. Sources suggest City may settle around €35 million, but the player’s salary terms are already agreed.

Manchester United tried to sign Donnarumma but rival clubs hijacked it

In an interesting twist, Donnarumma had been approached initially by Manchester United. The weekend reports claimed that Manchester United had agreed to sign a contract with Donnarumma, but, in an unexpected twist, the Red Devils’ cross-town rivals sealed the deal.

PSG coach Luis Enrique, who reportedly spent a lot of money on Chevalier, did not think Donnarumma was essential. Luis Enrique said he wanted a goalkeeper with a “different footwork profile”, a reference to Donnarumma.

Donnarumma’s contribution to PSG’s Champions League win last year was crucial. During his time with PSG, he also won four French Cups, two league titles, and two French League titles.

The Luis Enrique’s decision may have pushed the goalkeeper towards a Premier League departure. If everything goes according to plan, Donnarumma’s gloves will arrive at Manchester City in time for the start of the new season.
