Disney has announced plans to open its very first theme park on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island. Although the cost of this development has not yet been disclosed, it is estimated to be around $7 billion. 

The Walt Disney Co. released a statement The theme park giant signed an agreement Wednesday with immersive destination-and-experience company Miral to create its seventh resort worldwide.

Robert A. Iger is the Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. He said, “This is an exciting moment for our company, as we announce plans to construct an exciting Disney theme-park resort in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi’s culture is rich with appreciation of arts and creativity.”

As our seventh theme-park destination, it will rise in spectacular fashion from this land, blending modern architecture with cutting edge technology to offer deeply immersive entertainment experiences for guests in unique and contemporary ways, he added.

Disney will spend $60 billion within 10 years

CNBC: The $60 billion Disney pledged to invest over the next decade in theme parks does not include the Abu Dhabi development. reported. Experts believe that this new park will cost approximately $7 billion. This is based off of other parks like the Shangai Disney which cost more than $5 billion.

The new park is designed to offer a unique visitor experience by combining Disney’s signature style with Emirati tradition. Abu Dhabi, located within four hours of one third of the population of the globe, is a key tourism hub. Iger told CNBC the Imagineers have already started designing the park but refused to reveal when Disney expects the park to open.

Design takes 18 months, construction five years

He said that “we’re not setting a specific date just yet.” “It usually takes us 18 months to 2 years to design, fully develop and build a project. But we don’t make any commitments at the moment.”

Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi highlighted Miral CEO’s project’s contribution to Yas Island becoming a global entertainment destination.

Yas Island offers a wide range of retail and entertainment experiences. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi already occupies the island, along with Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, and the Formula 1 Yas Marina Circuit. Abu Dhabi’s largest shopping mall and award-winning golf courses are located here.

The Q1 revenue was nearly $24 billion

Disney announced a strong financial performance for early 2025. They reported an increase of 7 per cent in revenue to $23.6 Billion and a growth in Disney+ subscribers.

Disney’s parks in California, Florida Tokyo, Paris Hong Kong and Shanghai are expected to welcome 142 million guests in 2023. The new Abu Dhabi Park is expected boost these numbers.

Abu Dhabi has invested over $10 billion in tourism infrastructure between now and 2030. The Disney project is a major component. 

The park will offer themed accommodations, unique retail and dining experiences, as well as new attractions. This will take advantage of Abu Dhabi’s strategic position and status in the international travel industry. 

Disney estimated that 33 per cent (or approximately 500,000,000) of the global population lived within four hours of the UAE.

Disney is expanding its global footprint and the Abu Dhabi park offers a mix of familiar magic with local flavour.
