The Darkness into Light walking tour is set to return to the Costa del Sol on May 20, 2025 for its largest year ever.

A global campaign to prevent suicide and self harm, the Darkness into light Charity Walk was created. ‘We walk in solidarity in memory of our loved ones lost’.

The walk was started by Pieta, which was established in Dublin in 2006 to help people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm. Since then, the charity has provided a vital lifeline for more than 70,000 individuals. They provide a variety of essential support completely free of cost and are funded by events like these.

In Benalmadena La Cala de Mijas Estepona and 150 other places around the globe, the Costa del Sol will walk from darkness into light this year to raise vital funds for AFESOL. They also want to support their ongoing work. This brings together communities to bring awareness and raise funds for AFESOL, the mental health charity.

‘We walk in solidarity in memory of our loved ones lost’

In 2009, 400 participants in Dublin’s Phoenix Park began the annual Darkness into Light 5km Walk to raise money for Pieta. Since its humble beginnings, this movement has grown and now attracts over 150,000 participants every year. Darkness into Light has been a global movement since 2012. The first walk was in London in 2012 and there are now 150 walks around the globe. Participants walk together in friendship and unity to end suicide and harming oneself. AFESOL is the beneficiary in Spain. It runs workshops at secondary schools and offers individual psychological care to those who have suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

The walk will literally begin in the darkness and end with the new light of day. The Costa del Sol routes will begin at 6am Saturday, May 10 in Benalmadena, at Plaza el Remo, (La Carihuela), La Cala de Mijas, outside Biddy Muligans, Calle Cuesta moral 6, and Estepona, at Chiringuito Blue Dolphin.
