Local festival celebrations are in full swing, and the beautiful mountain village of Benahavís is no exception.
The 2025 Fair and Festivities will take place from August 14-17, and offer a wide range of activities to suit all ages and interests. The four-day festival will include everything from children’s activities and traditional events, to free food samples and colourful street dancing.
Here’s what you can expect:
Thursday, August 14th: An opening
The festivities kick off at 9pm with the official inauguration and lighting ceremony led by the mayor, accompanied by the lively “Sí o Ke” brass band and a “Bugs”, a movie-themed parade. The fair entrance will offer a free drink to partygoers. Fairground rides are open in the Sports Centre at 8pm. There is a special noise-free time for children with sensory problems from 8pm-9.30pm. The evening continues with a flamenco dance performance by Marta Álvarez’s Benahavís Flamenco Academy at 10.30pm in Plaza del Pilar, followed by the official proclamation by Guaraná singer Juan Ramón Arnaiz at 11pm. Miguel Morito will host the evening’s finale, which is the crowning of the Children’s Queens and Youth Queens of the Fair 2025, Ladies and Kings. Popular dances begin at 11.30pm in Avenida de Andalucía with the ALTAIR Orchestra, while Plaza de España hosts the La Tentación Orchestra and DJ David Acosta from midnight to 6am.
Friday, August 15, 2018: Family fun and traditions
The daytime fair opens at 1pm with traditional children’s games, including drawing contests, clay crafts, and board games like ludo and dominoes, held at the social centre on Avenida de Andalucía. Three age categories will receive prizes. At 2pm, enjoy live music by Ana Soto and Amanda Liñan, coupled with free paella for all. The municipal practice course will host inflatable slides, foam cannons, and pools from 4pm until 8pm. A Rociera mass is held at 8pm to honour the town’s patron Virgen del Rosary, followed by a parade with local authorities and queens. The night wraps up with more dances in Avenida de Andalucía (ALTAIR Orchestra, 10.30pm to 1.30am) and Plaza de España (La Tentación Orchestra and DJ Toni Solís, midnight–6am).
Saturday, August 16, 2018: Games and Grills
The fun continues at 1:00 PM with children’s games like jump rope, sack races, and musical chairs in Avenida de Andalucía, with prizes for top mini athletes. At 2pm, a free barbecue feast, “Día de la Parrillada,” is served, accompanied by live music from Grupo Latidos until 7pm. From 4pm to 8pm, inflatable attractions and mini-fairs with games such as darts and can knockdown will keep the kids entertained. Near the municipal pool at 5pm is the “bizcocho”, the traditional game. At 6pm there will be a snack of 60 kg cake. Evening dances feature the ALTAIR Orchestra (10.30pm to 1.30am) and the Roma Orchestra with DJ Antonio Rodríguez in Plaza de España (11.30pm to 6am). From midnight to 6am, the Plaza del Pilar is rocked by a youth party featuring Europa FM DJs Roger Freedom & Bulma.
Sunday, August 17, 2017: A Grand Finale
The 46th “Trial de Feria”, at the municipal sports center, starts the final day at 10am. At 1pm, children’s games including relay races and water balloon battles will begin. At 2pm, a special lunch is served to the older residents of the village. This includes free samples of gazpacho and tortillas. Live music will be provided by Grupo Lastidos. From 4pm to 8pm, the mini-fair and inflatable attractions will return. The Grandfather and Grandmother of the Fair 2025 are announced at 4.45pm. This is followed by a performance from the Ortigosa Group. The traditional ribbon racing takes place at 7pm. “Children’s Day”, which offers discounted rides from 8pm, also takes place. The fair wraps up with dances by the ALTAIR and Roma Orchestras, DJ Antonio Rodríguez, and a spectacular final fireworks display at 2am, in case anyone has to go to work in the morning.
