CSN News: WhatsApp and Messenger suffer major global outage

WhatsApp and Messenger are two of Meta’s most popular platforms. A global outage has prevented users from sending or receiving messages.

This Friday, millions of users were unable to send and receive messages via WhatsApp and Messenger. Many also struggled to make voice or video calls.

According to posts made on X (formerly Twitter), and the outage tracking website DownDetector the disruption seems to be widespread and affects both the mobile and desktop apps.

Meta’s web interface and smartphone app are both largely unavailable, leaving users unable communicate with family members, friends or colleagues. Others have reported problems logging in. This incident follows a similar one on 11 December 2024 when Meta acknowledged that its platforms were experiencing technical issues.

Meta silence on outage: no immediate response

Meta has not yet provided any official comments on the matter. Meanwhile, frustrated users are continuing to share their stories online. They highlight how many people have come to rely on these platforms as a means of communication. Affected users are left to wait and hope for a resolution.
