Recently, I had the pleasure to speak with Kerry Matthews regarding the Turre Dog Walking Club. This is a community initiative that she began in November 2024.
Kerry’s 25-year experience in dog rescuing has taught her the importance of socialisation to dogs of all ages. Socializing with other dogs, and even people, is essential to their well-being. It helps reduce anxiety and builds trust.
In my recent article on the new dog club of Mojacar, I explored this focus on dog-friendly initiatives in communities. Kerry’s Turre Dog Walking Club work is perfectly aligned with this growing community of dog lovers. This reinforces the importance of projects driven by the community that benefit humans and canines.
A weekly walk for dog lovers–with or without a dog!
The weekly walk is 45 minutes long and takes place every Sunday at 12:20 pm in Turre’s Square. The route is designed to be accessible to all fitness levels—for both dogs and their humans. The walk concludes with refreshments and friendly conversation, which reinforces the community spirit. For some of the older dogs who prefer a shorter walk, there’s an alternative plan—they lead their humans back to the cafe early, securing seats for the rest of the group.
Turre Dog Walking Club members do not have to own a pet dog. Others enjoy the social aspect, the company and the walk. The group is inclusive and welcoming. It brings together dog lovers of all backgrounds.
Kerry is currently working to create a safe area off-leash for dogs, as a way to help the local dog loving community.
Kerry wants to create a space that is safe and secure where dogs can play, run, and socialise without fear. To make this dream a reality, she is looking for a large, enclosed area—and hopes that one of our readers may be able to help.
