With the help of a new hospitality training program, 35 unemployed residents in Huercal-Overa are now learning the skills required to work as waiters, and also in the kitchen. This gives them a great opportunity to find future employment.

A collaboration between Innova Hosteleria y Turismo and the Town Council has led to this programme.  The programme will run until 22 April and is structured to suit the participants needs. Morning and afternoon sessions are offered. The Mayor visited the students recently to show his support and encouragement for the initiative.

Almeria’s economy is based on the hospitality industry

Students will be trained in all aspects of hospitality including kitchen work, dining services, bar management and more.  Participants will learn new skills, such as kitchen techniques, hospitality management, and service protocols.

The Mayor, when speaking about the project said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our residents.” The hospitality sector is an important part of our economy and we need to equip the unemployed with skills that will help them find employment.

Huercal-Overa Town Council, which has a commitment to training professionals, was also awarded an additional five Training and Employment Programmes.

The new courses include Auxiliary Operations of Administration and General Services (AOS), Office Automation, Professional Foreign Language for Administrative Management, Client Relations, Voltage Electrical Installations and Social and Health Care.
