This year’s theme, ‘You sail a fishing boat through the history of Garrucha and dedicate a poem to the sea and its fishermen’—invites participants to explore the town’s deep connection with the sea, its traditions, and the people who have shaped its maritime identity.
This competition follows on from the wildly successful 2024 Microfiction Contest which was held in celebration of International Libraries Day. Writers across the region took on the challenge to craft compelling suspense stories, showing off their storytelling and creativity.
The 2024 microfiction contest recognized three outstanding authors for their gripping stories. Maria Raquel Lopez Puche won the 2024 Microfiction Contest.
Garrucha’s poetic sea, its fishermen and the words that describe it.
The competition was a success, with many entries of high quality that highlighted Garrucha’s literary talent. Lourdes Blanco Navarro and Sara Martinez Navarro were the judges for this event. They are both professors of Classical Languages. Their dedication and expertise ensured an objective and fair selection process.
The 2025 competition will continue this momentum by focusing on poetry, especially the traditions and history of Garrucha’s maritime heritage. The competition will give poets the opportunity to capture Garrucha’s maritime spirit and pay tribute to the fishermen of the town as well as the Mediterranean cultural heritage.
This unique literary event is open to participants of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. It promises to introduce a new wave of artistic expression in the community.
