The drought and inflation caused a 11% increase in the price of cava.

Cava Designation Of Origin, which includes some of the main producers in the country like Codorniu or Freixenet, said that Tuesday domestic sales had only decreased by 3.56%.

The group comprises 349 wineries, and 38,000 acres of vineyards.

Turnover fell by €100 million, standing at €2.2 billion- a 4.26% reduction on the 2023 total.

Spain and Belgium are the two biggest consumers of cava. America comes in third, with 17.8 million bottles being exported to America in 2024. This represents 12.7% total sales abroad.

Cava Origin President, Javier Pages expressed concern about Trump’s threat of imposing tariffs at 200% on EU alcohol imports, but said people should wait to see what actually happens.

Last year, 218 million bottles of DO Cava were sold worldwide. Around 30% of these bottles were sold in Spain.

DO Cava expects to maintain sales levels as low as those of 2024.
