CSN News reports that world music icons will be in Marbella to attend the Starlite festival.

Next month, the Starlite Catalan Occidente Music Festival will kick off with a series of concerts featuring rock, pop and contemporary music. The series will continue through July and August. The boutique festival offers more than fifty days of concerts with a program that caters to all musical tastes, audiences and ages. The two main venues – auditorium and main stage and sessions area – will host concerts and shows between Friday, 13 June and Saturday, 29 August.

Some of Spain’s top artists, like Raphael, Miguel Bosé, Siempre Así and Fangoria will perform on the stage at the Nagüeles quarry, as will flamenco icons like Tomatito, and the Gypsy Kings (featuring Nicolás Reyes), the flamenco-fusion group who helped spread the genre throughout the rest of the world during the 1980s.

The lineup also includes some the most influential singers and bands in the world, including the Swedish rockers Europe (8 July), which rose to prominence with hits such as The Final Countdown, and Carrie, and The Scorpions (21/07), a German heavy metal group that achieved significant success on album charts during the ’80s.

Will Smith will be performing his show An Evening With Will Smith on the 26th of July, which will take you through his 30 year career. Kool and the Gang, one of the biggest American soul and funk groups, will also perform on the 27th of June, with a non-stop night of hits including Cherish and Celebration.

British Invasion

The Pet Shop Boys (16th June) are one of the UK’s most popular pop duos. Their hits include West End Girls, and What Have I done to deserve This?

Other artists include Duran Duran (9th June), pioneers in the New Romantic movement, with hits such as Girls on Film and Hungry Like a Wolf; Ali Cambell, former vocalist of UK reggae group UB40 (22nd June), who will take you through the greatest hits of the band; Seal (10th June), whose hits Crazy and Killer made him famous; and Texas (1st August), a Glasgow band who became popular with I Don’t Want a Lover.

The Welsh tiger

Tom Jones will perform at Starlite on Tuesday, 5 August, for the second year in a row. The ‘Welsh Tiger’ left the audience in awe last year with his performance. This year is expected to be no exception. The Welsh tiger’s performance will include classics like What’s New, Green Green Grass of Home, It’s Not Unusual and You Can Leave Your Hat On, as well as more recent tracks like You Can Leave Your Hat On, Kiss.

Jones, who has sold 100 million albums and is still a respected and influential music figure, continues to charm audiences with his timeless discography of hits as well as his talent and charisma.
