Spain, Portugal, and Morocco have already set their sights on the Women’s World Cup 2035, just months after securing their men’s World Cup for 2030.
The announcement came from Rafael Louzán, head of Spain’s football federation (RFEF), who revealed on Friday that talks are under way for a joint bid. He stated that Spain would like to host the Women’s World Cup together with Portugal, Morocco and Morocco in 2035.
Spain, Portugal, and Morocco strengthen global football legacy
The trio is not surprised to want to continue the momentum. Spain’s national teams are flying high — European champions in 2024 for the men, and world champions in 2023 for the women. Spain, Portugal and Morocco are all keen to host the 2030 men’s world cup, as well as being European champions in 2024 for the men and world champions in 2023 for the women.
“There’s no better way to shine a light on women’s sport than hosting the most important competition in the world,” said Louzán, who’s currently navigating some controversies of his own, including questions over city selections for the 2030 tournament.
FIFA announces the 2031 host as it prepares for the 2035 World Cup
Brazil is the host of the Women’s World Cup 2027, but all eyes now are on 2031. The United States has already put in a strong bid — but no matter the outcome, the Spain–Portugal–Morocco alliance is clearly positioning itself for 2035.
Early approval of the plan could give the three an advantage, particularly as the global focus is shifting more and more to women’s soccer. Whether FIFA will embrace the same multi-country model used for 2030 remains to be seen — but this Mediterranean-Atlantic partnership is clearly not ready to step off the world stage just yet.
