Construction of new homes in Alicante has reached its highest levels since the bubble burst.
COATA, Alicante’s Official College of Technical Architecture, has revealed that 2,727 new homes were built in the first three months of 2018.
This is a 53% rise compared to the same period in last year.

Comparing quarter to quarter, the increase was 49% compared with the last three month of 2024.
Carlos Casas told the COATA that he was president of COATA. Informacion Newspaper: “The beginning of the year has a remarkable intensity, with figures we haven’t seen since before 2008’s crisis.”
He said: “This is in response to an economy that, despite uncertainties, continues be conducive to residential development, and reflects a substantial boost to the industry.”
The market has responded to increased demand by increasing activity, despite the fact that such a marked increase is not expected in the coming quarters.
Casas did issue a warning says that ‘we must be prudent and not take for granted that this rate of growth will be maintained’.
The construction of the inland areas, Elche, and Las Marinas is at a level not seen in 17 Years.
The Vega Baja is the area where most of the new builds are recorded.
San Miguel de Salinas was the municipality with the most properties registered this year.
Alicante comes in second with 258 properties, Villajoyosa is third with 257, Orihuela is fourth with 204 and Denia has 200.
The average building cost per m2 stood at €559 during the first quarter of 2025, up by 2.9% on the 2024 annual figure.
