The municipal commemorated World Cancer Day by reading a Manifesto, and presenting the poster of the Night Race Against Cancer sporting competition. Proceeds will be donated to the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
The Town Hall of Albox and the Local Board of Spanish Association Against Cancer, held a gathering on the Plaza Mayor in honor of World Cancer Day. The event began with the reading of a Manifesto, sending a message of support to all those diagnosed with cancer and encouragement to continue confronting a disease that is expected to affect around 4,700 people in the province of Almería this year, according to estimates from the Andalusian Society of Medical Oncology (SAOM).
The mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, along with the president of the Local Board of Albox, María Sáez, and other members of the local government and the association presented a new edition of the ‘Albox en Marcha Contra el Cáncer’ Night Race to be held on April 30, with all proceeds going entirely to the Local Board of the AECC.
After last year’s record-breaking 750 participants, the charity race is hoping to break that record this year. The race will be five kilometers long, and start and finish in the Plaza Mayor. This will be a real celebration where adults and children alike can take part in various activities all afternoon. The races for children will begin at 6pm. An hour later, the general race will start.
The race pack will contain a pink Tshirt as a symbol for the fight against cancer. The event is expected to be well attended, with many friends, families and athletes participating, whether they are running or walking.
