CSN News: Historic 58-kilometre hiking trail between Ronda & Casares, Andalucia will be restored.


Refurbishing the hiking trails Ruta de los Viajeros Romanticos According to the provincial council, a new race between Ronda & Casares is scheduled to begin after Easter. 

It has allocated €811,000 to completely restore the 58-kilometre hiking trail which passes Alpandeire, Atajate, Benadalid, Benalauria, Algatocin, Benarraba and Gaucin .

The historical route from Gibraltar up to Ronda was called The English Way It is a place that welcomes foreigners on their journey into the interior of Andalucia. 

A spokesperson for the council stated that the refurbishment will further enhance the tourism in the region’s inland, which has seen a significant increase over the past decade.

The infrastructure will be repaired to allow hikers to pass through.

He said that in the next few days the work will begin either at Ronda, near the El Sur camping area, or Casares.

The estimated duration of the works is six months. They will be of interest not only to hikers and cyclists, but to horse riders as well.

The project will start with the cleaning and clearing of the route.

After this first phase, the attention will be turned to the conditioning of municipally owned public roads and the cattle tracks that are part of the itinerary.

In order to maintain the stability and safety of the terrain, slope stabilisation is also implemented.

The safety barrier will consist of a mixture of wooden and steel barriers in areas where riders and horses are at risk.

There will be two designated horse rest areas, each with traditional wooden fencing called talanqueras.

Clear signage will be used to guide users along the route. This includes start signs, complementary and directional markers, as well panoramic panels and beacons that highlight important points.
