Caterpillars on the Costa Del Sol can be dangerous. The warmer weather has led to an increase of toxic pine processionary cats, which are a serious threat to both children and pets.

Warm temperatures have brought out the Pine Processionary Caterpillar. Costa Del Sol. Normally, caterpillars begin to flourish in late March. This year, however they arrived earlier than usual. Caterpillars can be a problem for pet owners and young children.
Exposure Symptoms
Dermatitis may result from contact with the pine procesionary caterpillar. Severe allergic reactions and eye damage. Contact with these caterpillars is fatal for pets. Some symptoms include vomiting, breathing problems and foaming of the mouth.

The caterpillars measure between 3 to 4 cm. Caterpillars have tiny bristles covered in a toxic substance. If you or your pets have come in contact with these caterpillars, it is important to visit a clinic immediately.
