CSN – High-speed rail connection between Spain and Portugal completed by 2032

According to Portugal’s Infrastructure Minister, a high-speed rail will connect SPAIN and Portugal by 2032.

Vigo, a port city in Galicia, will be connected to the popular Portuguese destination Porto by a high-speed rail line.

Miguel Pinto Luz confirmed this plan at a Vigo event last week.

He said that both the Portuguese and Spanish governments are working to complete the project in seven years.

“It’ll have a unique geographic position.” Pinto Luz, said that we’ll have a macro-region which will lead the country’s economy.

“We do not think the country is only Lisbon. He assured that Porto is a hub, and Galicia is a key partner.

Joined by Galician president, Alfonso Rueda Valenzuela, they announced plans to make northern Spain and Portugal a ‘major competitor’ in Europe’s tourism economy.

In 2034, another rail link between Lisbon and Madrid is expected to be completed.

However, according to Porto Mayor, Rui Moreira the Port-Vigo line will be used ‘seven times more’.

He also urged officials to ‘think outside their capitals’ and develop ‘high speed, clean and sustainable infrastructure’ that Europe ‘urgently needs.’
