CSN: Brits and German campervan travellers infuriate Alicante residents by parking illegally next to the beach –

DZONES of campervans, from all over Europe, have occupied a public parking space near Saladar Beach in Alicante. The vehicles are able to park at this prime spot on the coast without paying any charges.

Despite clear signage prohibiting permanent parking, travelers – mainly from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Belgium – stay for weeks, treating the area as a free campsite.

Residents are angry at the situation and complain that visitors occupy space, leave behind rubbish, and disregard parking regulations.

Most of these tourists will set up tables, chairs and tarpaulins that cover large areas.

The site is also lacking in proper waste disposal. Some people illegally dumped wastewater into the nearby nature reserve.

A local resident says that the tourists come with their dogs, and they leave the place full. Many of them pretend to not understand complaints when addressed in English, German, or French.

The issue extends beyond Saladar Beach, with campervans occupying Cala de los Borrachos, and places in Elche, such as Carrabasí Beach.

Locals suggest that councils create designated areas for residents to coexist in and then charge a small fee.

Although the frustration is growing, authorities are yet to take any significant actions, and the issue remains unresolved, as more campervan tourists continue to flock to Spain’s sunny coast.
