Last Sunday, two men walking along a municipal park near Lliria, in the province of Valencia, raised the alarm when they discovered Craig’s corpse, which had been hung.
Lliria Policia Local, Guardia Civil and a paramedic crew were also present.
Documents found in his backpack, a few metres away, allowed Craig to be identified.
He travelled by himself in a rental car from Denia at the Costa Blanca up to Lliria.
The vehicle was in the parking area.
The Guardia Civil confirmed he took his own life, and no one else was involved.
Craig had posted a goodbye message on Facebook the day before, saying “Goodbye beautiful People.” Living is strange. “This will come as a shock to most of you, but I have been in pain for four years.”
He talked about losing great friends during the Covid-19 pandemic with the lockdown ‘destroying’ everything that he had built.
Poignantly, he appealed for anybody in his state, to ‘seek help’.
Sally Ainsworth, his mother, announced the death of her son last weekend on Facebook.
‘Craig has been found. Craig has been lost to the world. He served in Afghanistan and he had PTSD,´
He worked with the Beckham family in London’s Holland Park from 2013 to 2015.
Ainsworth has received many tributes on social media from his friends, family members and former military personnel.
Former colleagues often emphasized the importance of asking for and speaking out.
Kev Willis posted on Facebook: “He didn’t seem to be struggling. It just shows that no one is exempt from the battles that continue after service. Please reach out.”
Ainsworth was also a bodyguard who worked for Jennifer Lawrence, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
