Malaga’s new Costco nudges Nostrum cinema out of the way

Costco in Malaga pushes Nostrum out of its way

Malaga Nostrum will be saying goodbye to its current cinema complex before it was expected. Its last day has been set at June 9, 2025.

Costco has decided to close the store due to ongoing renovations. The old cinema will be demolished to make way for the new superstore.

The original plan was to relocate the cinemas to the space formerly occupied by Conforama, and keep them running throughout the transition. Demolition work began earlier than anticipated, forcing a shutdown. Screen announcements appear before movies, stating that June 8th will be the final day of the current premium cinema. It is hoped that the new cinema complex will open before Christmas 2025.

Malaga gets a new cinema with 19 screens and 9 restaurants

The Malaga Nostrum, a revamped boutique shopping centre, will include nine new shops and restaurants as well as 19 modern cinema screens. The new cinemas feature cutting-edge digital technologies, immersive sound systems and reclining seating, mimicking the premium cinema experiences found in other European cities.

The closure clears the path for Costco’s highly anticipated arrival, a big attraction in Malaga Nostrum’s modernisation plans, as the €24 million project includes a massive shopping space and 640 parking spaces on a 14,460-square-metre plot.

The new Costco petrol station, which is currently being built on a 3,703 sq. m. site and features nine fuel pumps (with plans for expansion up to 12), will be one of the main attractions. A new Costco-affiliated petrol station is currently under construction on a 3,703 square metre site. It will feature nine fuel pumps with plans to expand up to 12.

Costco’s hypermarket will be the main commercial draw in Malaga. It is hoped that Malaga Nostrum will become a top shopping destination. While the temporary closure of cinemas may be disappointing to film lovers, the promise that a cutting edge cinema experience will be available by Christmas shows a silver lining.
