Tarifa struck by hail and torrents of floodwater - Costa News Spain

Costa News Spain: Tarifa hit by torrents of water and hail –

The DANA weather phenomenon caused a heavy rainstorm that caused flooding along the promenade and in the streets of Tarifa on Friday 28th February.

The massive black storm cloud, which hit the small town, left 18 litres (or almost 18 gallons) of water per sq. metre. A heavy hailstorm was followed by a deluge. The heaviest rainfall lasted only a few moments, but the runoff of the surrounding hills flooded the town centre and promenade in a dark brown flood. Drains and sewer pipes also overflowed.

The rainwater that gushed onto the beach eventually covered the roads with rocks, stones and sand.

As the council starts its cleanup, locals complained about the foul smells of the faecal-waters that had washed along the Los Lances Beach and through the town.
