Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a high-spirited musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice that retells the biblical Joseph story from the Book of Genesis. Joseph is given a multi-coloured coat by his father Jacob. This sparks jealousy in his brothers. Joseph is sold into slavery by his brothers in Egypt. His ability to interpret dreams makes him the advisor to Pharaoh. Joseph’s vision saves Egypt from famine, gaining him fame and power. Unaware of his true identity, Joseph’s brothers arrive to seek help. Joseph, after testing the character of his brothers, especially Judah in particular, reveals his identity and forgives them.
The musical is known for a catchy song that blends country, pop and rock. It explores themes like envy, resilience, redemption and resilience. The musical was originally performed in 1968 for a short school play. It has since become a global success, celebrated for its playful story telling and its iconic coat.
Jacob Botha will star as Joseph in this show. Jimmy Millar will direct and design the choreography. James Burn will direct the music. Ruth Norris, as the narrator. The show runs every night from March 19 through March 30 at 7.30pm except on Sundays when it is at 7pm. On Saturday and Sunday, there are matinees at 2pm. Tickets are available from the theatre box office and cost €25.
