Staysure Marbella Legends is about to tee off at the Aloha Golf Club with a lineup of some of the most superstar veteran figures of the golf world, such as Paul Lawrie, Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomerie, Miguel Ángel Jiménez and José María Olazábal.
This is the first time that the Costa del Sol was chosen as the starting point for the Legends Tour. It will bring together 60 veteran golfers from 17 countries including Majors Winners and Ryder Cup players. There are also 41 European Tour Champions and 30 Legends Tour Champions.
Turismo Costa del Sol’s Esperanza González presented the event at the prestigious Aloha Golf Club, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, one of the most magnificent of its kind in the world. She stated that this was a great moment for the city. It will make Costa del Sol a leader of golf tourism in the world.
Lisandro Vieytes said that the event had already begun, and some of the world’s most famous golfers were competing against amateur players, celebrities, and other notables. The tournament will conclude at the weekend. ‘Many fans will have the unique opportunity to share at least 18 holes in competition with their idols in what is, without a doubt, a tribute to legends who have marked a before and after in the world history of this sport,’ said the councillor.
According to players already present, the course was in its best condition after recent rains. Fair weather is predicted throughout the duration of the event.
Supported by the Junta de Andalucía and Marbella Town Hall, this tournament reinforces the strategy of promoting golf as a key segment on the ‘Costa del Golf’. The event will also include exclusive events, including the Legends Experience and meetings between fans of legendary players. Parallel activities and media coverage will help to increase the destination’s visibility internationally.
Staysure Marbella Legends, which takes place on the benchmark course, positions the Costa del Sol, as an essential destination for all golfers, and strengthens its global appeal as the best part of the globe for sports tourism.
The Aloha Golf Marbella event is open to all spectators for free and will run until Sunday, 16 February.
