Estepona Council has announced a new initiative that involves using drones to clean facades, starting at the Mirador del Carmen.

The new eight-floor building houses such spaces as an auditorium, an exhibition space, a music hall and a vertical book library.

The council will be first to use drones to wash the outside of its buildings. These buzzing flying machines reduce the amount of time needed to clean large areas, which is difficult with traditional methods.

Local authorities highlight that the system can save about 60% of water used, and it eliminates all chemicals. The reverse osmosis system purifies water without using polluting products.

In one day, drones can clean anywhere between 500 to 3,000 sqm, depending on how large the structure is.

By having almost no workers, the initiative improves worker safety. The initiative also eliminates the need for unattractive cranes or scaffolding in order to perform these tasks at height.
