Emma Riemersma (19 years old) of The Netherlands, a member from the NextGen fightclub based in Los Boliches Fuengirola, took a leap into the unknown on Saturday February 15..
She entered the National Open Kickboxing Tournament organised by Federacion Andaluza de Kickboxing with just one fight under her belt and faced three experienced fighters.
Dutch kickboxing champion wins only four matches in total
The rules were unusual in that she had to face each opponent individually if wanted to move forward (although she didn’t need to fight them until she lost) but she managed to do so, defeating her first opponent, a strong one, in the quarterfinals thanks to the unanimous decision of all the judges.
She then entered the semi-final, where she won with a Technical Knockout. Then she faced the reigning champion from Sevilla. In a tight final match she won on points and became the new champion. This was only her fourth fight.
