Costa del Sol woman in race to save her dad’s life

Costa del Sol Woman races to save father’s Life

Costa del Sol, a community that is built on community, solidarity and sticking together is asking for help today. Ashleigh McCermott lives on the coast and is fighting against time to save her dying father.

The world is upside down

In less than one year, Ashleigh’s father, a talented musician and former self-employed joiner based in Belfast saw his diagnosis spiral from Stage 1 to Stage 3 with frightening speed. Ashleigh’s dad, a self-employed Belfast joiner and talented musician, has seen his diagnosis go from Stage 1 all the way to Stage 3. Cancer has spread to the pelvic bone and his family is now told that it’s “incurable”.

The fight for survival requires medicines

He is about to start immunology treatment but the medications he needs to have a fighting chance to survive are not available through the NHS. The financial and physical cost of a life spent working with his hands, and playing his guitar to fill rooms has been enormous. The mounting costs of prescriptions for a man who was unable to work because of his illness are a burden that no family should have to bear alone.

Ashleigh launched a new website. GoFundMe campaign with a modest but vital goal of £5,500. Ashleigh is desperate to ensure that her father lives long enough to celebrate his 60th anniversary later this year. “All those small donations add up, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart—I appreciate every single one.”

Many expats can relate to the agony of living in Spain, while your father is fighting for his life in Belfast. We want to encourage our readers show their support for our community. Whether you make a small contribution or share the campaign, each gesture will help this father of music get the treatment that he deserves.
