Costa del Sol: Vibrant expressionism in the face adversity

In the Calle Cuesta del Tajo visitors center in Torremolinos, a second exhibition of abstract expressionist art by German artist Peter Eichstetter is on display. It can be viewed for free until 29 August.

Eichstetter moved from Munich to Venezuela in 1950. He spent the next six decades there. Early on, Eichstetter showed an interest in graphic arts and painting. He specialized in landscapes, traditional scenes, and a touch of abstraction.

The artist had a stroke in 2019 while on holiday in the Dominican Republic. This affected his mobility as well as his ability to communicate. He maintained his vitality and unbreakable humor despite this challenge. Eichstetter, who is right-handed, has struggled to recover, but has found new inspiration in painting using his left hand. His style has evolved to include vibrant colors, abstract shapes, and intuitive compositions that reflect his joyous approach to life.

Eichstetter is a living example of resilience and the ability reinvent yourself in the face adversity. His work bears witness to his artistic spirit and his deep connection to painting.

Since 2020, he has lived on the Costa del Sol.

You can view the collection from Monday through Friday, between 9am and 2.30pm.
