The United Nationalities of Marbella Summit 2020 calls for immediate action in order to help the growing international community living on the Costa del Sol. The event will take place at the Harbour Restaurant on Tuesday 20th May from 11:30am to discuss the needs of the older population.
It is obvious that better support systems are needed, especially with the large number of foreign retirees and around 276,000 older people in our area. Others face more serious challenges when it is time to deal with Spanish bureaucracy, healthcare and social services.
The summit’s main goal is to establish a centralised helpline, staffed with fluent Spanish-speaking staff to assist elderly expats in completing paperwork and directing them to the appropriate services. The summit organizers also hope to create a network of qualified nurses, carers and financial assistance.
The rising costs of care, language barriers and lack of coordination among services are all contributing factors to many elderly people falling through the cracks. We can achieve long-term solutions by working together. Make sure that all elderly residents receive the assistance they require.
