Costa del Sol couple embark on second Ugandan adventure for Eyedrop 2026

Alan and Jenny Boardman, philanthropists from Mijas, have embarked on their second mission to rural Uganda. This is part of the highly successful Eyedrop campaign 2026. The Costa del Sol has generously donated money for this cause.

After their successful first trip, in which they donated thousands of donated school supplies, pens, pencils and spectacles to villages, health centres and hospitals, giving new hope to hundreds, the Boardmans return to the road. The Boardmans are back on the road, this time with more than 1,200 donated crayons, pencils and pens. They also have funds collected for school supplies and children’s footwear.

Election fever in Uganda

Travelling was relatively smooth. After 10,000 kilometres, 29 hours and multiple gate changes in Doha’s airport, and a 40-minute walk through the impressive terminal, the couple safely landed in Entebbe. Uganda is awash with election fever in the run-up to a nationwide vote. There are posters and bunting all over for various positions, from the president and 529 members of parliament to local councillors.

In Kampala, the Boardmans visited a shoe wholesaler and negotiated a fair price for 200 pairs of children’s school shoes – 100 for boys and 100 for girls – at 3,136,000 Ugandan shillings (approximately €748). Two employees carried the heavy load 15 minutes on crowded streets with uneven surfaces and chaos in traffic. They received a generous tip.

The stash

With additional donations boosting the fund to €1,614, the couple has already spent €748 on the initial shoe purchase. Now they are on a 12-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable, where the couple will deliver the shoes that they funded last year. Jenny was deeply moved by the fact that many children, including those from single-parent households, have never had proper school shoes.

Depending on the remaining funds, they hope to provide exercise books for all students. They continue to welcome donations, no matter how small—contact Alan via WhatsApp on +34 610 522 605 for charity account details. All donors are sent periodic reports, as well a list with the names of all contributors.

Alan and Jenny are spreading their love throughout the country, thanks to the Costa del Sol’s community.
