Costa Blanca’s top summer music festival ‘kicked out of Benidorm’ but finds new home in Torrevieja

The largest summer music festival in Benidorm has relocated to Torrevieja, on the southern Costa Blanca.

The Low Festival is a three-day event that brings together the best international and Spanish pop artists at the end July.

Benidorm welcomed over 65,000 tourists in three days during the summer of last year.

Next year, the local economy will suffer as festival-goers will instead boost Torrevieja’s coffers.

The promoter, Baltimore Productions, announced last Friday that they had been ‘kicked out’ of Benidorm after failing to reach a deal with the City Council.

After a year in Alicante, the festival moved to Benidorm.

This festival is one of the 10 most popular festivals in Spain.

The Pet Shop Boys, Empire of the Sun and The Kooks were among the headline acts of the year.

There are no international acts announced yet for the next year.

The festival bosses were looking to renew the agreement they had with Benidorm for another four-year period, continuing to use Guillermo Amor Stadium.

Baltimore Productions reported that a verbal agreement had been made, but there was an issue.

It said in a statement: “It was not possible to come to an agreement once the management of the venue was given to a private company whose financial terms would have been unfeasible to the festival.”

“We have been forced out of town,” said the promoter.

Torrevieja is celebrating a huge victory with the new festival home in the park Antonio Soria.

The venue, which is 80,000 square meters in size, already hosts other summer festivals such as Big Sound and Brilla torrevieja – both of which cater to different musical tastes than the Low Festival.

Next year, the event will take place on July 31,August 1 and August 2.

Baltimore Productions said the Low Festival in Torrevieja will continue ‘with the same spirit, artistic quality and commitment to live music that has characterised it for the last 15 years’.
