AN Alicante street thief was caught after snatching a bag containing €5,800 in cash and leaving a trail of banknotes strewn over the pavement.
In the early morning hours of Monday, the Policia Nacional pursued the 46-year old felon on foot.
The female victim has received all of her money and personal items back.

After hearing reports that a female was being chased around by a male, officers were dispatched to the location.
The victim, who had been punched on his nose, pointed in the direction of the aggressor’s escape.
She told me she was walking back to her Alicante hotel after leaving a gambling saloon.
A man approached her and asked for her cigarette.
When taking the cigarette packet out of her bag, she accidentally dropped a €50 note onto the ground.
After walking a few metres the man suddenly attacked and grabbed her bag containing money, documents and personal items.
The Policia Nacional created a cordon around the area to prevent any escape routes.
In minutes, the police caught him as he tried to flee, while banknotes were flying out of his bag.
The officer was caught with the victim’s bag and several banknotes in his pockets.
Authorities described him as ‘uncooperative’ during the arrest before he was carted off to a police station.
