As severe weather and infrastructure damages continue to disrupt regional rail networks, train services between Cordoba and Antequera and Jaen are suspended.

A flash flood has closed the line between Alcolea in Cordoba (and Espeluy in Jaen). Affected conditions have also caused the closure of the route between Cordoba (Cordoba) and Antequera.

Renfe confirms that there is a bus replacement service operating between Cordoba, Spain and Jaen.

Renfe’s spokesperson stated that “no date is anticipated” for the return of normal service. The company has sent out SMS notifications to passengers about rescheduling. It cites the need for “punctuality” in light of circumstances beyond its control.

A broken stock rail on the high-speed line (AVE) near Almodovar del Rio has caused trains to slow down from 250km/h, to only 30km/h.

Although the Ministry of Transport insists that the fault has been “secured” awaiting nighttime repairs, industry sources claim the problem has been present for more than two weeks. It is necessary to transport a 50 metre replacement part via rail. This involves complex logistics, and requires special permits.

Following the tragic accident that took place in Adamuz 18 January, the infrastructure is under intense scrutiny.

Just a few kilometers from the fault, two high-speed train derailments claimed 45 lives. Previously, the Commission for the Investigation of Railway Accidents had confirmed that a cracked rail was the cause of the accident.
