Comic-Con arrives in Malaga for first time. Costa News Spain

San Diego Comic-Con will be making its first-ever international stop in Malaga.

The Palacio de Ferias y Congresos will host the festival that is known around the world, which includes pop culture, comics and entertainment. Rare plastic figurines of movie character characters are also included.

At a star-studded event at the Gran Hotel Miramar, the Málaga Comic-Con was announced  It promises to bring to the Costa del Sol the full show from its American counterpart. Over four days, 300 hours will be dedicated to exclusive content including panels, contests for cosplay, immersive experiences, exhibitions and more. 

Marvel, DC and Warner Bros. will be showcasing exclusive previews for upcoming movies and series. Actors, directors and writers are expected to engage directly with their fans.

The event, set to take over all of Fycma’s 60,000 square metres, and is expected to draw 60,000 visitors in its debut year, as well as bringing in €30 million. The Malaga Council has signed a deal for a period of three years, ensuring Comic-Con’s return in 2026 and 2027. 

‘This is a paradise for nerds,’ said Hollywood actor Santiago Segura, the event’s master of ceremonies, who praised Malaga’s cool cultural scene and likened its appeal to that of California.

Mayor Paco de la Torre called Malaga ‘the synthesis of Andalucía’s Californian spirit,’ while Andalucía President Juanma Moreno predicted a ‘total success’ that will cement the region as the hub of pop culture. Malaga Comic-Con, with its mix of Hollywood glamour and local flare, is poised to redefine European fandom.
