The Costa Del Sol has been notified by mobile phone of a civil protection alert.  This warning is for a level red weather alert, which means torrential rainfall and possible flooding.

The message will be transmitted at 2.50pm.  Civil Protection Alert: Red alert activated – In this situation: exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel. Avoid areas prone to flooding and obey traffic restrictions. Don’t carry out any activities in or around riverbeds. You should seek higher ground if you’re in an area that is prone to flooding. Consult the recommendations of 112 Extraordinary Risk – due to rain at: https://lajunta.es/5rolh In case of emergency, call 112 National Alert Network – EMA – Emergencies 112 Civil Protection Alert National Alert Network – EMA – Emergencies 112

The Spanish weather agency AEMET has issued a warning for 120mm of rain in 12 hours. Red weather warning in effect till midnight tonight (Sunday 4th January).   Red is the  most severe of the three warning levels.
