Charlie Mullins (OBE), a Marbella-based entrepreneur who is well known and loved, took the limelight at the Variety Legends of Industry Awards in Manchester, which was held at Manchester’s Hilton Deansgate Hotel.
The black-tie gala, which raised an impressive £100,000 for Variety, the Children’s Charity, which Mullins has been involved with for 5 years, honoured him for his entrepreneurial brilliance and establishing his status as a UK icon. Charlie, when accepting the award said that he helped the charity acquire a few minibuses. He recalled“I remember seeing minibuses from Variety many years ago and thinking, wouldn’t that be nice to do?” He went on to say, “It doesn’t matter if I get the award. What matters is that we continue to help children,” before being drowned-out by the rapturous applause. He compared being awarded an OBE to receiving the Variety award.

The annual event, attended by guests from sports, business and entertainment, recognized contributions made across industries, while also supporting disabled children and other disadvantaged children living in the North West region of England. Mullins’ award, which was received by UK expats in the Costa del Sol where he is well-known, was a source of pride for them, as it reflected on his transformation from a North London Plumber to a celebrated figure who splits his time between UK and Marbella.
Mullins was awarded the Entrepreneurial Achievement Award in recognition of his long-lasting impact on British business. Mullins founded Pimlico Plumbers, and invented the WeFix innovative service. Mullins, who is known for his straight-talking style, media commentary and flamboyant fashion, captivated his audience with his acceptance address. “It is a privilege to receive this award alongside people of such high caliber, but I think the real success lies in raising money for Variety Kids.” This night is a testament to what we can achieve when we all work together. His words struck a chord, especially among expats that admire his success as well as community spirit.
The Children’s Charity has honoured entrepreneurs
The gala was hosted by Variety North West and featured a star studded lineup of honorees including football legend Jill Scott MBE. Vanessa Feltz is a broadcaster, John Parrott MBE is a snooker legend, Sonia the pop star, Anne Hegerty, The Chase’s Anne Hegerty, among others. Mullins’ performance was the highlight for the Costa del Sol.
The award is the culmination of a career that has been remarkable for Mullins. After selling Pimlico Plumbers for £145 million in 2021, he launched WeFix, continuing to innovate in the home services sector. He has been a favorite of the expat community for his frequent visits to the Costa del Sol where he owns luxury villas and supports local charities.
