Marbella Christmas is about more than just the thousands of lights decorating its streets. It’s about spreading that festive glow to all residents, no matter what their age or level of mobility. The town is preparing for its most heartwarming Christmas tradition with this spirit at its center.

On Wednesday, December 17, the streets will host the eighth year of the ‘Paseo de la Ilusión Taxi Luz’ (Taxi Light of Hope Tour), a charitable convoy that will allow more than 150 elderly participants to experience all the fun of visiting the Christmas lights from a comfortable and privileged vantage point.

Taxi Luz reminds the elderly they are not alone at Christmas

This plan does more than just show the elderly around town. It is a way to let them know that they aren’t forgotten in this festive season. The drivers will act as guides and mobilise around 50 taxis. The taxis will pick participants up directly from their home, providing a break from the routine and combating loneliness which often surrounds Christmas for senior citizens.

This event is a collaboration between the Marbella Council, and the Taxi Solidario The association is supported by Marbella Voluntaria and Aguja Solidaria. It also has the support of Cruz Roja restaurant, Gamonal, and Marbella Voluntaria. Taxi Solidario has a long history of doing good deeds. They organised a convoy of taxis that carried food donations to Ukraine in 2024.

The itinerary for the day is meticulously planned in order to maximise fun. Starting at 6.30pm with a special afternoon tea hosted by Gamonal restaurant, not only to refuel but also to get the party atmosphere going with a traditional zambomba navideña (a flamenco-style Christmas carol performance.)

Tour the Christmas lights with a scenic tour

The taxi convoy will then make a scenic drive through the streets of Marbella, San Pedro Alcantara and other nearby towns to let seniors admire the lights without having to overcome the physical obstacles that prevent them from walking around the centre.

Now a firmly established tradition, the ‘Paseo de la Ilusión’ unveils Marbella’s generous community spirit, proving that generosity on wheels can truly illuminate the season for those who often need it most.
