Casares Town Hall activated their municipal prevention plan in order to reduce the risk this summer of West Nile virus. Mosquito bites can transmit the virus to humans and animals. Most cases are mild but some can be serious.
Local authorities have started treating areas where mosquitoes can breed to prevent the spread of virus. Included are rivers, streams and water tanks as well as any other areas with stagnant water. The spraying is done by a specialist and adheres to safety and environmental guidelines.
A regular surveillance of larvae and mosquito activity is also included in the plan. As summer progresses, additional measures will be taken if needed. The official website will be updated with the latest information. Casares website.
Residents should do their part to prevent mosquito breeding by inspecting their property for standing water. They can also clean their pet bowls regularly and cover or empty containers such as buckets or plant trays. These simple steps can have a huge impact.
The Town Hall reminds all residents that it is important to not only respond to problems, but also to be proactive. Casares hopes to protect the community and reduce the risk for infection by taking action early.
