Camping is not a one size fits all experience. As the 2025 Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Report by Kampgrounds of America (KOA) shows, different generations are bringing new wants and needs to the outdoor travel scene.
From nature-loving Millennials to tech-savvy Boomers, every age group redefines how they camp.
Gen Z Glampers
KOA says that Gen Z and Millennial campers account for 61 percent. Gen Z has a preference for comfort, convenience and ease. Gen Z campers were more likely to choose a glamping experience and rent equipment from a campground than Boomers.
Millennials: Tech-driven destinations
KOA reported that 71% use AI or online planning tools when they plan their trip. They are also leading the pet-friendly trend – 61 per cent of Millennial campers bring their dogs.
KOA reports that Millennials “most often combine work and pleasure travel” with WiFi at campgrounds.
Gen X – Classic family camping vehicles
Gen X campers are still inclined to traditional camping styles. The top motivation for 54% of Gen X campers is spending time with their loved ones. KOA’s data reveals 55 percent of Gen Xers are nostalgic and like to be in the moment.
Accessibility for Boomers is essential
KOA reports that “as older camper generation matures, it’s imperative that campgrounds create opportunities for them enjoy the outdoors.” 47 percent of Boomers prefer sites that have easy walking trails, and 68 percent say beach walks improve their well-being.
Camping is your oyster. Over one million households are expected to camp by 2025.
