Shared on Twitter, the news is a bit of a surprise. La Posesion Podcast, cites anonym sources and brings closure on the club’s much-anticipated long-term return to historic ground.
Nou Camp is closed since 2023
Since the end of 2002-2023, the stadium has been shut down. This was just after Barcelona’s former coach Xavi Hernández won La Liga. Multiple target dates have passed since then. Renovations to increase the stadium’s capacity from 50,000 to 105,000 are currently underway.
Fans initially hoped that the team would return to the stadium in November 2024. This coincided with the club’s 125th birthday. The deadline set for November 2024 was not reached, nor was the February goal. In February, the club confirmed that turf was being planted in the stadium. This process usually takes 10 weeks.
The speculation began about his possible return to the club for important games, like the Champions League semi-finals in April or the title-deciding El Clasico match against Real Madrid in may.
Barcelona continues its play at Montjuic
David Bernabeu has confirmed that despite the ongoing construction, the club will not be returning to the Camp Nou for this season unless something unexpected happens.
Renovations are moving forward, but not as quickly as Barcelona had originally planned. It is still unclear if the blaugrana will begin the new season at Camp Nou, as the third ring has not been completed. Fans will continue to travel to Montjuic Hill to watch matches at the Estadi Lluis Companies.
