British pensioner arrested in Spain for attempting to smuggle drugs on a ferry

A 69-year-old British man was arrested after he tried to smuggle 62 kilograms of cannabis resin on a ferry at Spain’s North African enclave, Ceuta.

The Guardia Civil discovered the packs of drugs hidden in what they described as a ‘sophisticated’ false roof lining in his UK-licensed car.

Around 6pm, Sunday evening, vehicles were being inspected as they boarded a ferry bound for Algeciras at the Port of Ceuta.

Guardia officers searched the car after a sniffer dog showed interest.

The discovery of 62.3 kilograms of cannabis resin in packs with the trademarks Cereal Milk, Dream Gelato and others.

These names are used frequently to describe different resins destined for the black-market.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on charges of a crime committed against public health.

He was to appear Monday before a Ceuta judge.

The arrest of the Brit coincided with Operation Crossing the Strait The authorities are looking for drug traffickers during the summer spike in traffic between Spain and Morocco.
