British arrests in crackdown on drug trafficking clubs on Costa Blanca

Guardia Civil busted a GANG that was using legal cannabis clubs in southern Costa Blanca as a drug trafficking network.

17 individuals, with British, Colombian and Spanish nationalities, as well as Russian and Finnish, have been arrested.

A court has ordered that six cannabis associations be closed for five year because they were used as a front to sell narcotics.

Selected Drugs Seized

Eight raids took place between November and March in Torrevieja and the Orihuela Costa. Drugs, cash, and consumables were found.

In March 2023, the Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor’s Office became suspicious when a new marijuana-club was registered. This coincided with a rise in drug-possession incidents, mainly among non-Spaniards.

It is perfectly legal for non-profit marijuana associations to consume cannabis in premises that members have brought into the building, provided no drugs or other products are sold.

After a year-long investigation, the Guardia Civil of Torrevieja began a series raids in November last year.

A small laboratory was housed in one of the club buildings. It produced derivatives such as hashish oils and sweets that contained marijuana.

In total, nearly 10 kilos of marijuana and derivative products, 767 prepared joints, syringes with liquid extract, plants, and €4,298.78 in cash were seized.
