SPAIN will play England in the Euro 2025 final on Sunday, a tantalising match-up of two years ago’s World Cup final after La Roja beat Germany with an extra-time winner.
Aitana, a two-time winner of the Women’s Ballon d’Or, was the hero of the day as she scored a glorious goal in the 113th minutes to prove the only difference between both sides.
A late diving save from keeper Cata Coll helped to ensure Spain would reach their first ever European Championship final – and set up a repeat of 2023’s final against Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses in Sydney, when a first-half goal from Olga Carmona ensured the trophy would head to Madrid for the first time.
In a dramatic match played at Stadion Letzigrund in Germany, the World Cup-winning team dominated possession of the ball and lied about it to a German side that was resolute.
After 90 minutes of stalemate, it was only the brilliant strike from Barcelona’s Bonmati that separated the two sides and secured Spain’s very first competitive win over Germany.
Aitana bonmati, FC Barcelona’s midfielder, has won the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

The midfielder slid past Rebecca Knaak and then threw the ball past German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger with aplomb.
The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Spanish squad as the German players – eight-time winners of this competition – fell to their knees in despair as two hours of resilience came to an end.
Spain and England clash at St Jakob-Park, Basel on Sunday at 18:00 CEST.
It will also be the rematch of 2024’s men’s Euro-final. In that match, Spain won 2-1 with a dramatic goal from Mikel Oyarzabal in the 86th minute.
In both women’s and men’s football, the clash on Sunday will be the third time in as many seasons that Spain and England have met in a final.
