Bosch to eliminate 1,100 jobs by 2029

Bosch will cut 1,100 jobs from its Reutlingen facility in southern Germany, by the year 2029, to deal with rising costs and challenges on the market.

According to reports, the company stated that it needed to “adjust its structures and reduce costs because of changing market conditions as well as increased competition and pricing pressure.” 20 Minutos.

The reductions will be primarily in the production of control systems and administrative roles. Bosch said that this segment was “no more competitive”, prompting the shift in focus. In the future, Reutlingen will focus on semiconductor production.

Bosch Engineering is also affected

The cost-cutting efforts extend beyond Reutlingen. Bosch Engineering is a Bosch group subsidiary that will eliminate 460 global jobs by the end 2027. Of these, 380 will be in Germany.

Bosch Engineering employs 3100 people in total, with 2,200 of them located in Germany. These layoffs are part a wider response by the company to a ‘difficult industry situation.

Chinese rivals pressurize the U.S.

Bosch’s decision underscores the growing strain on Germany’s automotive sector, which is grappling with falling demand and increasing competition – especially from Chinese manufacturers producing more affordable vehicles.

The company hasn’t announced any immediate plant closings but the reductions are expected to significantly change operations at one its key German sites.
